INTRODUCTION

In line with the aim of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) to inculcate the culture of research and consultations among the academic and non- academic members, UiTM Kedah created the Research and Consultation Unit (RCU) in April 2000. With the cooperation of RMU of UiTM Kedah and the Bureau of Research and Consultation of UiTM Shah Alam, RCU was given the responsibility in coordinating research and activities, particularly among the academicians in UiTM Kedah.

In August 2003, the Institute of Research, Development and Commercialization (IRDC) was established as a result of an amalgamation between the Bureau of Research and Consultation with the Center of Intellectual Property Development. This transformation in the role and function at university level had led UiTM Kedah to change the name of its unit from RCU to URDC.

In 2009, URDC was rebranded as Research and Management Unit or Better Known as RMU, parallel to the rebranding of the Institute of Research, Development, and Commercialization (IRDC) to Institute of Research management (RMI).

On the 1st April of 2009, UiTM Kedah renamed its Research and Management Unit (RMU) as the Department of Research and Industrial Linkages. This department is currently helmed by the Deputy Rector of Research and Industrial Linkages with the help of an Assistant Registrar and two Administrative Assistants. The Department of Research and Industrial Linkages governs smaller units led by the respective coordinators to assist and support the Department in their focus areas. There are few units under its wings, namely the University Industrial Linkage, University Publication, Tunas Mekar, MASMED and Small Business Development Centre.
