In line with the Universiti Teknologi MARA’s aim to inculcate the culture of research and consultations, UiTM Kedah created the Research and Consultation Unit (RCU) in April 2000. With the cooperation of RMU UiTM Kedah and the Bureau of Research and Consultation UiTM Shah Alam, this unit held the responsibility of coordinating research and consultation activities by UiTM Kedah’s academicians.
On August 2003, the administration of UiTM had combined the Bureau of Research and Consultation with the Center of Intellectual Property Development under one common name, the Institute of Research, Development, and Commercialization (IRDC). As a result of this, UPP UiTM Kedah had changed its name to the Unit of Research, Development, and Commercialization (URDC) UiTM Kedah.
Parallel to the launching of the rebranded the Institute of Research, Development, and Commercialization (IRDC) to the Institute of Research Management, all Units of Research, Development, and Commercialization in faculties as well as branch campuses had changed its name to the Research and Management Unit (RMU).
The responsibility as the RMU Coordinator was held by Prof Madya Dr Maznah Wan Omar with the help of daily staff, Noor Ashikin Ani who was also the Administrative Assistant (Secretarial) as well as the Technical Research Committee.
UiTM Kedah renamed its Research and Management Unit (RMU) to the Department of Research and Industrial Linkages on the 1 April 2009. This department is currently led by the Deputy Campus Director of Research and Industrial Linkages, Prof. Madya Dr. Maznah Wan Omar with the help of the Assistant Registrar En. Hairul Nizam Othman, and two Administrative Assistants, Cik Noor Ashikin Ani and Pn. Norehan Ramli.
